Artist Statement
"Rainny Zhao is an award-winning oil painter based in Edmonds, Washington, where she works and teaches from her home studio. She is the recipient of the Gold Medal Award at the Oil Painters of America Western Regional Exhibition and is a Signature Member of the Portrait Society of America (PSA), Oil Painters of America (OPA), and the American Impressionist Society (AIS).
Working primarily in oil, Rainny specializes in figurative and portrait painting, exploring themes of inner strength, quiet resilience, and psychological depth. Her process is intuitive and instinct-driven, guided by vision and emotional resonance rather than rigid structure. She builds her paintings through layered color and atmosphere to create luminosity and presence. In addition to her studio practice, she offers small-group workshops and private instruction from her Edmonds studio"
