Artist Statement
"David Varnau has opened his studio to the public during the Edmonds Arts Studio Tour for 13 years. He enjoys sharing his artistic process to visitors and explaining how a clay sculpture is transformed into a bronze or glass sculpture. David has a passion ofr creating an image of a figure in motion that is gravity-defying. What both intrigues and excites him is to successfully create a sculpture that, at first glance, grabs your attention. With 3-D art, it is particularly satisfying for David to succeed in capturing your interest from all sides of the piece! What all of his bronze figurative sculptures have in common is that they depict a figure in what is best described as being in a flow state. The figure is immersed in a timeless moment. As you look at the sculpture, pause and allow yourself to experience that moment as well. Fine art is evocative and mirrors back to you, the viewer, a visceral experience that you resonate with. For that reason, figurative sculpture is something that nearly everyone can relate to.
David's artistic mission is this:
While rendering the individual, I attempt to express the UNIVERSAL; while capturing a moment, to convey the TIMELESS.”"
